What I Ate | Ice Cream Sundaes

My mother-in-law said that she ate lots of ice cream from Friendly's the night before my husband was born so on the night before his birthday (also known as week 40 day 4 of my pregnancy) we went out to Friendly's to re-enact, just in case.  It didn't work, but I did get a really yummy dessert!

There was finally a day that was not too hot to use the stove to cook breakfast so I made oatmeal.  This one has apple, cinnamon and dates in it.

I've been so paranoid about produce for weeks now.  I'm afraid to buy too much at once and I'm terrified that I'll go into labor and then come home with a new baby and find some kind of slime-covered science experiment growing in our refrigerator.   So I just chopped up every vegetable we had and ate that for lunch with hummus and some pieces of cheese.  Ha ha!  That was a lot though so I did share the veggies with Steve. :)

Lunch (part deux):

You probably noticed the lack of balance in that lunch I ate.  My belly noticed, too, but alas it can't really accommodate all I want to eat all at once these days.  So I waited a little while and then chowed down on some graham crackers with peanut butter and raisins.

Dinner & Dessert:

We went to Friendly's where I got a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of tomato basil soup.  When I was a kid I would always get a grilled cheese and dip it in barbecue sauce.  I almost ordered that but then decided to try the slightly fancier version that they seem to have put on the menu.  It hit the spot.  For dessert I got a Reese's Pieces Sundae.  It has peanut butter, hot fudge, and marshmallow in it.  I devoured the whole thing, obviously, but the magic didn't work.  I am still pregnant.

Ultimately, it's OK.  Steve didn't really want to share his birthday with the baby and I didn't really want them to have to share either.  It's nice to have your own birthday, whether you are an adult or a little kid.  If we have more children someday and they have their own birthday to be king or queen on then I would always feel a little bad if this child didn't get his/her own day.  Plus, I would HATE sharing my birthday so I would never wish that on Steve! Ha ha!

If you've had a baby did you do anything to try to help labor along?  Give me your tips!!!

40 Week Pregnancy Update

40 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnant woman, full term, happy, smiling

How far along? 40 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain/measurements: Still holding steady at 41” around my belly. I gained that pound back that I had lost last week so I'm back to 29 lbs up, which started at 10 weeks, since I don't know what I weighed before that.
Maternity clothes: I hate them. The end.
Stretch marks: Still none. Some people say that they can show up right after you have the baby. I don't really care if I end up with some but I did have the thought that I have lived with itchy, sensitive skin that burns horribly and never tans for my entire life and if I were to actually get away with no stretch marks, it wouldn't balance it out but it'd come close. I probably just jinxed myself by writing that but really, I would take stretch marks over being constantly itchy.
Sleep: Same as it's been at night...waking up a couple of times to go to the bathroom. I've also been napping a lot during the day.

40 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnancy, full term, baby bump, pregnant woman

Best moment this week: It's been so hot that we've had to move our walks to be really late after it gets dark and the other night we ran into a baby skunk! I mean, we saw the skunk and then turned around and walked away, but it was so cute! It was little and it's tail was so huge compared to it's body! It wasn't like a teeny tiny baby, but it was very young. Skunks can be really huge so it was cool because I've never seen one that little before.
Miss anything? Sleeping on my stomach. I don't know why I really want to do that now. It's not like I've been able to do it for months and months. I just feel like if I could sleep on my stomach for one night my life would be complete. Ha ha! How weird is that?!
Movement: It's so weird to feel like I can't wait for this baby to get the heck out of my body at the same time as feeling sad that pretty soon I won't be able to feel it moving around in my body ever again. Both are true feelings even though they are kind of opposites.
Food Cravings: Nope.
Anything making you queasy or sick? I've been feeling a little queasy at night but not from anything specific.
Gender: We've just been calling the baby “Baby” lately. We keep saying things like, “Baby, what are you doing in there? Aren't you ready to come out yet, Baby?!” I've started feeling that it's so close to being a little person that I want to call the baby by it's actual name, but I can't name it because it needs to be born first!

40 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnancy, full term, baby bump, pregnant woman

Labor signs: I've been feeling run down and tired since the day before my due date and in the evenings I've been feeling almost like I've got mild morning sickness again. There were a few days when the Braxton Hicks contractions were pretty much non-existent and that was so frustrating. But they started back up again on Saturday night and I've been having them since then. Other than that I've just had extra pressure, extra discharge and today I've been feeling crampy but that's because I had my midwife do an internal check this morning. That was NOT comfortable, by the way, and I don't know why the heck people get them done every week for weeks before they even get to their due date. It doesn't really give enough information until you are past due so I would NOT want to suffer through it for no reason.
Symptoms: I'm still getting heartburn but not quite as bad. That doesn't mean it's not bad...I have really bad heartburn, it's just a smidge less than the worst it could be, I think.
Belly button in or out? Out
Wedding rings on or off? Off
Happy or moody most of the time: I've been SO emotional. I feel like I've been going between napping, eating and crying for at least 4 days in a row.

Looking forward to: OMG GIVING BIRTH ASAP (hopefully)!!!!!

What I Ate at 39 Weeks Pregnant

I haven't done many #TastyTuesday posts during this pregnancy.  It's just hard to put it all together in a coherent list when you are eating strange meals at strange times of the day.  The third trimester has seemed to make a little more sense in terms of meal planning so I thought I'd share a classic What I Ate here today.  Enjoy! :)

Breakfast was yogurt, granola and fruit.  The granola is that cocoa coconut flavor from Kashi that I've gotten a few times before and the yogurt is the Stonyfield Organic Greek whole milk yogurt.  I chopped up a half a banana and also had a glass of water and cup of decaf black coffee.

For lunch I had an egg salad sandwich with cheese and kale and a bunch of organic tomatoes.

Snack No. 1:

The day I took all of these pictures was right in the middle of the heat wave we just had so we drove over to a mall to go for our walk instead of trying to brave the heat outside in our neighborhood.  I got a decaf iced coffee and Steve and I split a strawberry frosted donut with sprinkles.  We were thinking that it looks like the kind that Homer Simpson eats. Ha ha!

Snack No. 2:

I had another snack before making dinner because didn't think I could wait that long to eat.  I had a few crushed up graham crackers in almond milk, which is seriously the yummiest treat you can make. :)

Dinner was steak with pasta and broccoli.  The pasta and veggies just have some butter and garlic on top.

To cool down a bit while catching up on some YouTube videos I had a bowl of peanut butter cup ice cream.  As you can see I'm not restricting the treats so much.  I really did try hard for most of my pregnancy to continue to eat the healthy diet that I normally eat, just more of it, and for the most part that has worked well for me.  I have never been one to deny myself dessert foods or snacks but I'm definitely indulging a bit more often these days while I wait for this baby to decide to move out of my body.

39 Week Pregnancy Update | Almost Done!

39 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnant, baby bump, full term, third trimester, almost done, belly, pregnant woman

How far along? 39 weeks and 5 days
Total weight gain/measurements: I actually lost one pound since last week and I'm still 41” around. Hopefully that's because I've dropped a little and I'm getting close to the end.
Maternity clothes: I bought a second pair of these workout/pajama shorts that I found at the Motherhood maternity section in Macy's. I have been wearing the black ones every day for a couple of weeks now so I figured a second pair in gray would be useful!
Stretch marks: Nope.
Sleep: This week I've started waking up twice in the night for the bathroom instead of just once. I had been making it until about 3:30 or 4:00am and then again until the morning. But now every single night I'm up at 2:00 and also 5:00am. Most of the time I can fall right back to sleep after both times though, so that's good.
Best moment this week: Every moment that I've spent in air conditioning. I knew I wouldn't escape this pregnancy without a heatwave. It was 100 degrees the other day!

39 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnant, baby bump, full term, third trimester, almost done, belly, pregnant woman

Miss anything? No.
Movement: The baby is still moving plenty in there.
Food Cravings: Carbs...I think my body is gearing up to do some work!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Just the heat.
Gender: We'll know pretty soon!!!
Labor signs: Contractions are getting a little more frequent and I think I've dropped. I've been feeling a lot more pressure. But definitely not labor yet.
Symptoms: Nothing new.
Belly button in or out? Out.
Wedding rings on or off? Off.
Happy or moody most of the time: Moody and hot!
Looking forward to: Having the baby so that I can 1) have it and 2) be in an air conditioned hospital for a few days!!! :)

38 Week Pregnancy Update

How far along? 38 weeks and 5 days
Total weight gain/measurements: 29 lbs and my belly is 41” around.
Maternity clothes: I hate them.
Stretch marks: Nope.
Sleep: I'm tired all the time.
Best moment this week: Going to brunch with friends we haven't seen in a while and eating 3 blueberry pancakes.
Miss anything? Having clothes to wear that are my style.
Movement: Still plenty of movement. :)
Food Cravings: Potato chips. Which is weird because I don't really even like chips. Ha ha!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.

Gender: Don't know.
Labor signs: I've had more contractions and have gotten some pretty intense ones in my back in the last few days but it's not labor yet.
Symptoms: Nothing new.
Belly button in or out? Out.
Wedding rings on or off? Off. :(
Happy or moody most of the time: Both. My midwife said that it is really important to relax from now on because any amount of stress is going to tell my body that it's not an ideal situation to go into labor. I said, oh maybe I should stop answering the phone when anyone calls and she said that if that would help then it's a good idea. Ha ha! I've started getting the “how are you feeling?” questions...meaning are you in labor yet...a little too often from a few too many people. I think the ridiculous part of that is that it's such a cliché and everyone knows that everyone who has ever been pregnant hates when people do that and it puts pressure on them to perform and yet for some stupid reason lots of people still do it anyway because they think it's fun to be part of the problem. (Can you tell I'm really over being pregnant???)
Looking forward to: When the baby is born.

37 Week Pregnancy Update

37 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnant, third trimester, baby bump, full term, baby

How far along? 37 weeks 6 days
Total weight gain/measurements: Still 27 lbs total because I didn't gain anything since last week. But my belly is 40.5” around, which is bigger. So that is interesting. The baby also felt bigger to the midwife than it was measuring at my ultrasound last week. So clearly the baby is taking literally everything. She asked if my appetite was less with the heat and Steve and I both thought that I've been eating the same amount...which is a lot. Later I realized that we've been walking every day for the past two weeks so I'm guessing that's why I stayed the same weight. I also have heard that some women stop gaining weight, or gain less rapidly, towards the end...so maybe it's a good sign!
Maternity clothes: I am SO sick of wearing the same boring, basic maternity clothes that are starting to wear out from being washed so frequently.
Stretch marks: Still none.
Sleep: Still varies night to night. If I don't get enough at night then I have to take at least one nap, but if I get roughly a full night of sleep then I can usually make it without a nap. I've also been going to bed about an hour earlier at night in general.
Best moment this week: My midwife appointment. I saw a different midwife this week because everything got goofed up with the Monday holiday. We were in and out quick enough to get free parking and she said it sounded like I'm doing a good job. She made a guess at the baby's weight and that was the only info she gave me. I've been on unnecessary information overload with all of these stupid ultrasounds I feel like I've been bullied into getting and it's making me completely insane. NOT being told any details for one day was so amazing and relaxing. :)
Miss anything? Beer. It's summer, it's hot, it was just the 4th of July and I'm so over being pregnant and huge. I really wished I could have had a cold beer at the cookout we went to on Sunday. It's not even a big deal, it's just that I'm so close to the end of pregnancy that everything is starting to look really amazing on the other side of it.
Movement: I've got a healthy active little baby in there.
Food Cravings: Anything cold.

37 Week Pregnancy Update, pregnant, third trimester, baby bump, full term, baby

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.
Gender: We'll find out soon enough!
Labor signs: Not yet really... The baby is definitely a little lower and when I walk I get that lightning crotch feeling that some people talk about. It's like a zappy pressure feeling where I assume my cervix is. Braxton Hicks contractions are much more frequent and I've felt a little crampy here and there in the last week, but nothing is consistent. I'm not there yet!
Symptoms: My life is basically constant heartburn.
Belly button in or out? Out.
Wedding rings on or off? On when I go somewhere but I've been leaving them off when I'm at home. It's just too hot and they get a little bit stuck sometimes.
Happy or moody most of the time: I'm fine. I don't want to be pregnant anymore but it's not like I'm crying hysterically about it. It's not killing me but I'm not overjoyed. I'm hot and uncomfortable but that's the stage I'm at so past the part where it is physically bothering me, it's fine. So that's my answer. Ha ha!
Looking forward to: Having the baby.

Things I've Loved in June | 2016

I can't believe it's already July! The year is half over, summer is in full swing, and most likely I'll have a baby before the month is through! I thought I'd do a little favorites post today and show you some of the beauty, fashion and lifestyle items that I've been loving and using a lot recently. Enjoy! :)

Target, dress, body con, maternity, dragon scales, outfit, fashion, style, pregnancy, 9 months pregnant, Alice Manfrida

First up is this body-con maternity dress from Target. I love the pattern. I think it looks like dragon scales and makes my bump look like a giant dragon egg. (For the record, I've also been playing catch up watching Season 3 of Game of Thrones.) It's a nice change of pace from the nautical stripes trend that completely dominates the world of maternity fashion and the colors make a little dressier looking. If you saw my 36 week pregnancyupdate, I included a picture of how I styled it to wear to my cousin's baby shower. I threw on a loose crocheted cardigan and some strappy flat sandals.

Fossil, handbag, bag, pocketbook, tote, leather, fir green, Gwen Shopper, zippers, designer, fashion, style, accessories

Fossil, handbag, bag, pocketbook, tote, leather, fir green, Gwen Shopper, zippers, designer, fashion, style, accessories

My next fashion favorite has been this new addition to my collection of Fossil bags. I got this Gwen Shopper in Fir Green for my birthday and have been using it almost exclusively since then. The color is a bit dark for summer but I don't care. I love that the sides zip to change it from a full tote to a more structured and interesting shape. I especially love that I can make that opening nice and small because it just has a magnetic snap closure and sometimes I don't want a fully open tote enticing someone with sticky fingers to see if they can snag my wallet. #citylife

Erin Condren, Life Planner, ECLP, blossom, rose gold coil, planner, agenda, calendar, organization

Erin Condren, Life Planner, ECLP, neutral, watercolor, planner, agenda, calendar, organization

Erin Condren, Life Planner, ECLP, vertical layout, neutral, watercolor, rose gold, calendar, planner, agenda, organization

Another obsession this month is the much anticipated Erin Condren Life Planner! I went with the vertical again this year but I chose the brand new neutral colorway and the rose gold coil. The font they chose and the minimal watercolor details they put in the neutral planners are still making drool every time I open it. (No, I am not ashamed to admit I'm drooling over my calendar.) My cover is the Blossom design, which is gorgeous with their suggested black background but I went with the bright mermaid color for mine. I could have stayed with my last planner until the end of the year and then just replaced it with a 12-month for just 2017, but because the July start of the 18-month version lines up so perfectly with my due date, I thought I'd just start over now. :)

Camelbak, purple, water bottle, hydrate, lotion, stretch mark, massage lotion, Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula, pregnancy

I've been chugging water from my new Camelbak. I know these are not new and tons of people use them, but a friend gave this one-handed water bottle at my baby shower because she said it will come in handy when I'm stuck in a chair breastfeeding. You can tip it upside down and it does not spill a drop! The Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Stretch Mark lotion is something else that everyone but me has known about. It goes on super smooth, soaks in fairly quickly and it smells like dessert. I've been using it twice a day, instead of once like the last stretch mark lotion I was using because I've stopped using the oil I'd been putting on at night. Now that it's summer the oil is too heavy and doesn't ever seem to dry. But this stuff totally does!

Milani, eye shadow, cosmetics, makeup, Must Have Naturals, neutral, palette, pretty, eyes, beauty

Last, but not least, is the Must Have Naturals eye shadow palette from Milani. This is a great neutral drugstore palette and it's compact enough to fit in my travel makeup bag. I wanted to get something that was smaller than the Urban Decay Naked palette that I usually use so that I could easily put it in my hospital bag. The Milani palette is nice for quick daytime looks because it doesn't seem to have a huge amount of pigmentation. But for brightening up the eye area and making me look generally more awake, it's perfect. And really, isn't looking a little more awake all anyone is looking for when they are getting their picture taken right after they have a baby?

Don't forget to check out the FavoritesVideo that I put up over on my main channel.  I'm wearing the eye shadow and I have a clip in there of me wearing the dress so you can see how it fits a little better. :)
