14 Week Pregnancy Update

pregnancy, 14 weeks pregnant, bump update, baby bump, second trimester

How far along? 14 weeks (the pictures were taken on Sunday at 14 weeks and 4 days)
Total weight gain: 2 lbs so far! That's 2 lbs since 10 weeks. I was fortunate to be able to keep almost everything I ate down during my first trimester. That being said, I had a really hard time getting anything down. The few things I could eat would make me nauseous after a few bites and I was sleeping so much. I don't weigh myself at home but I'm sure I gained that second pound all in the last week since I can finally eat again! :)

pregnancy, BeBand, BeMaternity, Target, maternity style, belly band, maternity fashion, maternity clothes

Maternity clothes: I tried to go buy some maternity jeans yesterday and I almost cried during the experience. The jeans at Target are ridiculous. First of all, they run REALLY big. But they are also really weird shaped. The S size was massively big in the legs... not just the thigh but the entire leg even on the skinny styles. The XS size fit better on my body for the bottom part of the legs and the top part was a little better. The butt part was so weird though, I literally couldn't buy any of them and I tried on so many pairs! So Target is a NO on maternity jeans. At least for me.
But they did have the stretchy belly bands so I picked up a black one and a white one. They also had a kind of light tan color called natural. I tried one on last night and they are really comfortable. Right now I'm wearing them folded in half instead of up over my whole belly.
Stretch marks: Nope.
Sleep: I'd say I'm sleeping almost like I did before pregnancy. I am trying to get to bed a little earlier at night only because I want to be up a little more during the precious daylight hours of winter. I've been having crazy/upsetting dreams this week. One was about being really angry with someone and I woke up feeling stressed out. Another was this nightmare I had where I was on a roof of a tall building and people kept getting too close and falling off and I was freaking out that I'd fall off, too. But I'm a little afraid of heights anyway.

pregnancy, bump update, 14 weeks pregnant, second trimester, baby bump

Best moment this week: I saw my midwife this morning so it was nice to have the confirmation of a heartbeat again. I wasn't really worried about it but it's still nice to have proof since it's still too early to feel any movement in there.
Miss anything? Oh my god! I want sushi so bad. I've become obsessed. I am looking at pictures of sushi and talking to Steve about my favorite kinds of sushi and honestly I'm thinking about it way more than I've even brought it up to him. Ha ha! It's so ridiculous!
Movement: Nope.
Food Cravings: Sushi, obvs. But in terms of food I can actually eat I have been wanting tons of fruit lately. I think my last grocery trip was half fruit.
Anything making you queasy or sick? The smell of eggs cooking. I can eat them if I get them out somewhere but when they are cooking in my house I hate it.
Gender: Nope.
Labor signs: Nope.

appendix, appendectomy scar, pregnancy, 14 weeks pregnant, bump update,
Appendix scar!

Symptoms: Energy is back for real! Also, my growing midsection.
Belly button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy.
Looking forward to: I've got two more shopping trips planned this week to go look for pants. I guess that could go either way but I'm currently remaining hopeful because it's either that or cry. :)

If you have any suggestions for actual stores that carry maternity jeans PLEASE let me know what has worked for you! I know you can get tons of stuff online but I am not here for the trudge-through-city-snow-to-ship-back-returns life. Also, I live in a place where there is actual cold winter so I can't actually survive the next two months just in leggings.

January 2016 Birchbox

I got lots of great samples in my Birchbox this month. Of course I filmed an unboxing video but I don't think such a casual video needs close up shots inserted in it so I've got pictures here instead!

The best part is the makeup! I got the Fat Liquid Eyeliner pen in Black from Eyeko. I have the Skinny version of this and I like it a lot so I'm sure this will be a winner. I definitely think that the felt tip eyeliner pens are the easiest way to apply liquid eyeliner. The other makeup item I got was a lip stain by Tony Moly. This is the Tony Tint Delight in #2 Red. It is a true red and it really does last. My hand was slightly stained for a day after I took this picture, even with scrubbing with soap. Ha ha! But that is exactly what you want in a lip stain!

I got a dry shampoo from R+Co. I used this last weekend while we were away for a couple of days and it worked like a charm. It also smells really nice. The Bombshell Blow Out Spray from Amika smells like the other Amika products I've used, which is amazing. The fancy name threw me off but it's just a heat protector spray.

Finally, no winter box would be complete without some moisturizer and this month I got the Lait-Crème Concentré by Embryolisse.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?
If you have a Birchbox subscription let me know what you got this month.

Ava Anderson Haul | Natural Products

Recently I “attended” an Ava Anderson party that my sister hosted. I put attended in quotation marks because it was an online party. I ended up buying a bunch of different products and I even got a freebie because I was the most active person participating in the party! Ha ha! Ava Anderson is a company that makes natural home and beauty products without using harsh, toxic chemicals. It's run like any other company that does home parties. I do think that the products are priced well for a smallish company that makes natural products. Anyway, on to what I bought!

natural cleaner, chemical free products

Ava Anderson has a lot of different types of products ranging from baby to body to makeup to home cleaning to candles, and I think more. From the Ava Home line I bought the Glass & All Purpose Cleaner and the Bathroom & Hard Surface Cleaner. They come with a screw top and you have to buy the spray nozzles separately but then you only have to buy the nozzles once. After that you just buy the refill bottle and swap out the top. In addition to limiting the chemicals you use to clean your home you are decreasing the amount of plastic that you are throwing away by reusing the tops.

natural products, chemical free products, paraben free, hair care, beauty, shampoo, conditioner

From the Ava Hair line I bought the Shampoo and Conditioner. These can be used as is but I did decide to buy the optional pumps to put on the bottles because I think that is a little easier than squeezing it out. It's the same idea as the home cleaners in that you buy a new bottle but reuse the pump.

natural products, chemical free, aluminum free deodorant, body, beauty, skin care, moisturizer, shea butter, dream cream

I bought the Dream Cream and the Deodorant from the Ava Body line. I have started using the Dream Cream and I really like it. It's pretty thick and smells nice. It's got shea butter in it so I'm really liking it for the winter.  By the way, you can put it on your face.  I tried it just to see and it was very thick but it felt nice and could be good as a night cream for super dry winter skin.  The Ava Deodorant has no parabens, no aluminum, and no harmful chemicals. The ingredient list is all recognizable things and I am excited to try it out. I am not sure how I really feel about switching to a deodorant only (most of us use a deodorant/antiperspirant combo) but I have been wanting to give it a go and this seemed like a good opportunity to do that.

exfoliator, natural beauty products, chemical free products, skin care, sugar lip scrub
Sorry this picture is a little blurry! :(

The freebie I got from the party was the Exfoliator from the Ava Skin line. I would say it has a medium level grit in it. I have used it on my face a few times and it was fine but I prefer it for my body. The Sugar Lip Scrub smells SO GOOD! It smells like spearmint. My sister actually gave me the lip scrub for Christmas so I didn't buy that one either but I love it! My lips have been so chapped lately and this has really been helping.

Let me know if you have ever used any Ava Anderson products and which ones you like. ALSO: have any of you tried natural deodorant before? What are your thoughts?

I also made a video version of this haul as my first main channel video back in over a month!

12 Weeks Pregnancy Update

So I'm 12 weeks pregnant so my first trimester is almost over! I think that this first part of pregnancy flew by because I was a zombie during most of it. This time of year is especially crazy anyway with the holidays and with how dark it is where I live as we head into winter. But now it's actually winter, the cold weather has really blown in and it's a new year! I really wanted to do weekly pregnancy updates starting a few weeks ago but I felt too sick and exhausted to do anything so I haven't been able to get to it until now. I've seen a lot of other women do these kinds of update posts and I think it's cool to have a collection of answers to the same questions at the end from each week to see how things have changed. I will say that I found these questions on AnnaSaccone's blog because I think that they really cover everything. (You can find Anna's pregnancy posts linked here.)

How far along? 12 weeks
Total weight gain: 1 lb. I don't tend to weigh myself very often so I only have a rough idea of what my pre-pregnancy weight was. My first appointment with my midwife was on Dec 24 (Christmas Eve!) and then I went back a week and a half later on Jan 4 and had gained 1 lb! I was happy with that because I think that I probably lost a few pounds during the first trimester since I had such a hard time eating anything. I'm just going on how my body was feeling and also that my grandma has said she thought I looked like I had lost weight. Anyway, I'm happy with that! :)
Maternity clothes: I finally bought some maternity bras! I had been waiting because I was too paranoid to buy anything until after I had some professional confirmation. But it was becoming an emergency. None of my regular bras fit at all and I no longer fit into any of my regular sports bras now either. One of my friends told me to just to get nursing bras, even though I'm sure I'll need bigger ones later, because they are the most comfortable. She was completely right about that.
Stretch marks: Nope
Sleep: Better! I've been getting 7 ½ to 8 hours of sleep at night and then on most days a nap in the middle of the day. It's so much better than the constant all day sleeping I was doing a few weeks ago.
Best moment this week: Hearing the heartbeat! My midwife did find it at my main appointment 2 weeks ago but it wasn't very clear so she said I could come back this week to check again when it would be louder. She found it immediately and it was so cool to hear it. I sort of felt like I could have listened to it for the entire day and done nothing else. Ha ha!
Miss anything? This week I was watching a video on YouTube and they were at a sushi place and all of a sudden I wanted it so badly! They had a pile of really yummy looking plate of salmon sashimi and my mouth was watering and I could practically taste it! The other thing is coffee. I don't really miss the caffeine (the withdrawal from that back in November was the worst, by the way). But what I do miss is the ritual of having it every morning. So I guess I'm just emotionally sad about being parted from my friend but I don't really want the taste. Ha ha!!
Movement: Nope
Food Cravings: carbs, dairy, peanut butter and bananas
Anything making you queasy or sick? Pork chops
Gender: Don't know. I keep going back and forth between what I think it is. I'm keeping a list on my phone of people's guesses. Ha ha! So far more people have guessed Girl.
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: The new one this week is that I am so hungry! For the most part morning/all day sickness seems to be over but I still am feeling kind of yucky at night. General/constant fatigue also seems to be gone but I definitely get tired really quickly even from things like doing dishes or folding a lot of laundry.
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy but emotional. My brain is finally wrapping itself around the idea that I'm actually pregnant and I am SO happy that I'm feeling better after a long month and a half of feeling so horrible. I have been crying at movies and stuff a lot this week but I'm chalking that up to my actually being able to stay awake enough to experience things that trigger emotions instead of just sleeping through life!
Looking forward to: Having an actual baby bump! I'm definitely filling out my pants more now and some of them don't fit comfortably anymore. I can see and feel a difference in my shape but obviously it's very slight so it is definitely hidden beneath bulky winter sweaters.

By the way, if anyone else has had their appendix out and is pregnant or has had a baby, let me know!!  I had mine out when I was 8 and I remember it being uncomfortable as I grew up.  I'm a little nervous about it being painful or super itchy as my bump gets bigger but I'm also kind of interested to see what happens.

I'm Back! (For Real)

Hi again and Happy New Year!!  I had such high hopes for this blog during December.  I started Blogmas with so many plans for a mix of regular posts and Christmas-themed ones.  But then I woke up one morning with ridiculous morning sickness and I feel like I was in a daze for weeks!  I stopped blogging, I stopped making YouTube videos, I stopped watching YouTube videos.  I had a hard time reading more than a few pages at a time in a book.  I felt sick, and exhausted and frustrated that I couldn't eat anything.

Of course none of that is strange for the first trimester of pregnancy.  I feel like I missed the entire holiday season.  I feel like I've been a moaning zombie for over a month.  I am so glad to be coming out of that phase.

Since I am now at the end of my first trimester and feeling a lot better I have slowly started to get back into living real life.  Steve and I have started daily vlogging again but we're going slow so I'm only uploading the videos on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

(Check out our vlog channel: ManfridaTV)

I think it's really cool that I'm feeling better at the beginning of the New Year.  Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come.  I'm excited to be back to blogging so please say hello down in the comments!!

:) Alice
