Unicorn Poop Cupcakes

cupcakes, mini cupcakes, purple, sugar, dessert, baking, pretty, sweet, treat, frosting

These cupcakes came out so cute! I was going to make the frosting blue to go with the snowflake wrappers I had but that felt too cold and wintery and I'm so sick of winter. I went for purple instead because it's more of a transition from winter to spring kind of color. Ha ha! That was my thought process anyway! I meant to make these cupcakes with white frosting and the sparkle sugar so that it looked like snow for the day after Christmas at my aunt and uncle's but then we didn't end up going because I was still feeling so much morning all day sickness. Then I thought I'd do pink frosting and make Valentine's cupcakes but never got around to buying milk. With the purple swirly frosting and sparkle sugar they ended up looking like shimmering unicorn poops, which is perfect. :)

18 Week Pregnancy Update | Ultrasound!

baby bump, pregnant, belly, second trimester, first pregnancy

How far along? 18 Weeks – according to my date I'm 18 weeks and 5 days. At my ultrasound I was told the baby is measuring 6 days behind that but they won't change the date on paper unless it is a full week or more different so I'm still going by the original date. Although, the difference matches up exactly to what I thought so I feel pretty validated in my ability to know my own body. :)
Total weight gain: I have gained 3 lbs. since my first appointment two months ago. That was a little frustrating because I genuinely felt like I gained more than that. It was early morning so that may have had something to do with it...I'm sure I weigh more in the evening. I am not super worried because I do feel like every day I eat more than the day before so eventually it will have to stick but it would be reassuring to see that scale move.  ALSO, my midwife told me that my uterus is right under my belly button!  I think that's so crazy -- it's so big now!

baby bump, pregnant, belly, second trimester, first pregnancy

Maternity clothes: I haven't gotten anything new. I pulled out a bunch of clothes that I can't wear anymore and packed them away and I was able to clear out one of my drawers. I've been storing the few little baby things that I've gotten in there.
Stretch marks: None yet. I'm interested to see how long that lasts. I can definitely feel my skin pulling and itching a little bit around my appendix scar.
Sleep: When I am able to stay asleep it's fine but I'm still having a hard time falling back to sleep after getting up to go to the bathroom. I don't usually need a nap during the day but when I do I end up sleeping for 2-3 hours!

Best moment this week: My ultrasound! It was so cool to see the baby moving around. We got a few pictures to take home so I've got them up on the fridge. I will say that actually seeing it was better than the pictures. I could see all the fingers and toes, the little chambers in the heart, and the little arms were moving all over the place.
Miss anything? I've been missing coffee a little bit. By coffee I mean the buckets of coffee I used to drink. I have had coffee twice in the past couple of weeks but I make my husband split a cup with me just so I can have the smell and taste but I really don't want to drink a whole cup. I don't really think it will do anything to the baby but since I've been off it for 3 months I don't want to get a big caffeine rush and feel sick.
Movement: I can definitely feel the baby now. Mostly it's just tiny little feelings but then there will be a pretty good push or bump here and there. It's really cool. Yesterday I was laying on the couch with my hand on my belly and felt a kick or something right under where my fingers were. I was almost thinking I could feel it on the outside but I think it probably just felt like that because it was right where my hand was and I can feel it from the inside – I think the baby is just way to small to make that big of a movement.
Food Cravings: I had a couple of days this week when I ate carbs pretty much all day. I'm back to normal now and eating a variety of things.
Anything making you queasy or sick? Not really.
Gender: Nope!! We decided to wait until the baby is born to find out. The woman who did our ultrasound told us when she got to the bottom area so that we could look away and then when she was done there she told us it was OK anyway because the legs stayed crossed the whole time anyway! :)
Labor signs: Nope.
Symptoms: I started feeling a little dizzy when I get up, especially in the morning. I have been getting up slowly since the beginning but I've had to be even slower about it now.

Belly button in or out? In -- but I think it looks different.  I think it is more shallow than normal and Steve thought maybe it's stretching out.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or moody most of the time: Oh man, BOTH! I felt like I had a bunch of super high highs and super low lows. It's been all over the place and kind of exhausting.
Looking forward to: We ordered a pregnancy pillow and it is supposed to arrive sometime this week! I can't wait! I've been rolling up a blanket and using a throw pillow from my couch and leaning on Steve to try to stay comfortable in bed but it's not really working. I'm so excited for this pillow to get here!!

17 Week Pregnancy Update

Maternity Style, baby bump, pregnant, second trimester, Alice Manfrida

How far along? 17 weeks
Total weight gain/measurements: I won't know until my next midwife appointment but my belly is steadily expanding.
Maternity clothes: I am now exclusively wearing maternity pants. The BeBands don't work anymore. I can still wear a lot of my normal tops but some have been retired for the foreseeable future and I've been mixing in a few maternity tops.
Stretch marks: None yet.
Sleep: I've been having a hard time getting comfortable at night, especially after I wake up to use the bathroom. I've been trying to move my husband around so I can lean back on him like he's a pillow and so far he hasn't been woken up by that plus all of my tossing and turning so that's been helping! :)

baby bump, pregnant, second trimester

Best moment this week: Finding a few more pairs of maternity pants that actually fit me. Also, my sister gave me a few things and one is literally the cutest onesie ever! It's sort of mint green with little hedgehogs on it! Seriously, I want to get a second one to dress Stella in it...although she would hate it. She definitely isn't the kind of cat who enjoys clothes. :)
Miss anything? Not really.
Movement: I think I've felt some little movements here and there. Once it felt like tentacles wiggling around and other times it just felt like little bubbles or popping sensations... it's in the right spot so I think it's the baby but I don't really know.

baby bump, pregnant, second trimester

Food Cravings: I've been eating a lot of vanilla yogurt with raspberries and banana on top.
Anything making you queasy or sick? I've had so much nasal congestion and have had some bloody noses and it all drips back in my throat while I'm sleeping so I've thrown up first thing in the morning a few times recently. It's really annoying but I don't feel nauseous or anything.
Gender: Nope.
Labor signs: Nope.
Symptoms: Nothing new this week. I still have heartburn in the evenings but I've found that it's not as bad if I don't drink anything while I'm eating.
Belly button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On.

Happy or moody most of the time: Honestly, a little moody and stressed. Not about the pregnancy itself but it's more like my personality doesn't mesh with other people when they get excited and gush about things – especially when the thing is me and my body. I'm not usually one to discuss my emotions because I feel like that is very private. (I realize that the amount I share online may make it seem like I'm not a private person, but trust me, I don't actually share that much.) I didn't share my engagement with most of my family and friends until 3 months before I was going to get married and then planned the wedding quickly. That was awesome because if I had to deal with people obsessing over me as the bride for much longer I would have had to have eloped. Being pregnant it's a longer thing and people tend to get more excited, which is nice, but it's overwhelming and stressful to me. Especially since I still have plenty of months to go, the baby isn't really a baby yet because I'm only 17 weeks and it's not viable yet. It is partially how I always have been and it might also be because I have had a miscarriage and I know that not all pregnancies result in live babies. I am not actually too worried about that, so far everything has been fine and I know I'm healthy. I know that some people might think that what I just said makes me horrible and ungrateful of the love and well wishes that people are giving me but I do appreciate all of that. I'm just trying to explain that I know that everyone means well and I'm glad but maybe it would be nice if it was a little less intense.
Looking forward to: My ultrasound!!! It's happening very soon!!! :)

By the way, I filmed a try-on maternity clothes haul to show the various pants and tops I got along with some nursing bras.  I talked a lot about the different stores that I bought things from and what works for me and what doesn't.

15 Week Pregnancy Update

baby bump, bump update, pregnancy, maternity style, selfie, Alice Manfrida

How far along? 15 weeks
Total weight gain/measurements: Not sure but my regular pants feel like enemies at this point.
Maternity clothes: Listen, the maternity pants struggle is real. I don't know how anyone else gets dressed while pregnant without hating literally everything but I feel like it shouldn't be this difficult. Of course not every woman gets pregnant and nobody who does is pregnant all the time, but as evidenced by the billions of people who have been born on this planet, the need for maternity pants is a legit one. Why do they all not fit?! I did get one pair of pants that fits and one pair that kind of fits. I also got 2 pairs of yoga pants, which are comfy for at home but make me feel dumpy and bad about myself if I wear them too much because pajamas aren't clothes! I also got 2 maternity tops. All of those things were bought for me this week by my mom, who also fed me meatloaf. :)

baby bump, bump update, pregnancy

Stretch marks: Nope.
Sleep: It's been OK. My problem is that when I wake up to use the bathroom I am stuck being awake for 3 or 4 hours after that and it doesn't matter if I get up at 6am or 4am. So I've been feeling really goofed up this week.
Best moment this week: Finding ONE pair of pants that actually fits me.
Miss anything? Not really.
Movement: I don't think so yet.
Food Cravings: Not so much a craving but I'm still eating a lot of fruit.
Anything making you queasy or sick? Sometimes cheese feels too heavy in my stomach but that's pretty much it. Wait, actually, I feel kind of sick if I see raw chicken. That's annoying because apparently my body thinks that if it doesn't make me feel sick then I'll eat that. Guess what body, I'm not going to eat raw chicken. So chill out. Thanks.
Gender: Don't know.
Labor signs: Nope.
Symptoms: A new one this week: heartburn! Also, nose bleeds and I'm pretty sure I've started leaking colostrum or something. So that's all cool.

baby bump, bump update, pregnancy

Belly button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or moody most of the time: Half and half. I feel fine except that getting dressed is now very difficult and I am very grouchy about how impossible it seems to be to get maternity pants that fit. My belly feels like it all of a sudden became huge this week. We noticed over the weekend that it sticks out farther than my boobs, even when I'm wearing a bra. Steve pointed out that every time I notice I'm bigger that it's the biggest I've ever been so it's understandable that it feels strange.
Looking forward to: Despite my complaints and despite the fact that shopping is exhausting, I am looking forward to a shopping trip that I have now planned with a friend. Hopefully, I actually get some pants out of it but at least it'll be fun to hang out! :)
